About Us

About Us

About Us

Thank you for visiting the New Jersey Chapter of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering (NJ SAMPE). Chartered in 1977, the same year as the release of the original Star Wars, the launch of Voyager 1, and the debut of the TRS-80 Micro Computer (!), NJ SAMPE is one of the oldest Chapters in the SAMPE network. We serve the greater NJ/NY/CT/PA area by focusing on membership, as well as student and young professional outreach. Currently at 90+ members, including 10 SAMPE Fellows, 13 Senior Honorary Members, one George Lubin Award Winner, and one Young Professionals Emerging Leader Award Winner, NJ SAMPE was designated in 2018 as SAMPE's Center of Excellence for Additive Manufacturing (AM).

History

About Us

About Us

The first organizational meetings to form a  New Jersey SAMPE Chapter were held in 1967. A Charter from the  International SAMPE society formalizing our Chapter was received in  April 1977.  Since then the Chapter has sponsored Technical Conferences  in 1981, 1989, 1998, 2009, 2012, and International SAMPE Symposia in 1996, 1998 and 2002. Co-sponsorship years included 1994, 1996 and 2006.   The Chapter was also awarded the International SAMPE Best Chapter Award  in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001. The successor award, SAMPE Chapter of the Year, was awarded in 2024. Our Regional Additive Manufacturing Symposia were held in 2019, 2020(v), 2023, and 2024.

Join Our Membership Community

NJ SAMPE generally gathers on the first Thursday of each month at various local venues, corporate and university locations. Our meetings include dinner, a featured local speaker, or panel discussions.  In addition to the material sciences, we focus on the current state of commercial AM applications, showcase trends toward advancing its adoption and highlight academic achievements.  We also cover topics of wider interest including professional development and STEM support. You are encouraged to participate and network, either for business opportunities, recruitment or keeping up with industry trends in the region. As the only technical society encompassing all fields of endeavor in materials and processes, SAMPE provides a valuable forum for scientists, engineers and academics.  SAMPE’s strength can be found in its vital core of local Chapters, each with its own unique heritage and program offerings.
